Please Vote For Me

Please Vote For Me follows a teacher in a third-grade class at an elementary school in Wuhan, China, who tries to teach about democracy by staging an election for class monitor. Three children vie for the office, indulging in all the low blows and character assassination of a typical Western-style election.

Please Vote for Me Democracy Lesson: This lesson explores two essential questions: What are the key values necessary in a democracy? What happens when elections are not well run?

The lesson begins with a discussion of basic principles of Western-style democracy. It encourages classroom discussion about the purpose and effect of the documentary. This lesson includes a Class Activity: Classroom election which gives students the opportunity to run an election of their own.

Handouts: Principles of Democracy, and a Student Model Election Party Campaign Worksheet. These printables are ideal for civics-focused lessons and are available to download individually.
