Out of the Dark

Out of the Dark is a supernatural horror film with environmental themes starring Julia Stiles, Scott Speedman, and Stephen Rea. Sarah Harriman’s family has relocated from London to a small town in Colombia to take over her father’s business. Santa Clara seems like a promising place to raise their young daughter Hannah. But Sarah and her husband Paul soon learn of an ancient legend that haunts the town, one that has created a culture where ghosts have become the explanation for anything that goes wrong.

Overview

Out of the Dark shows many aspects of life in Colombia, from modernization and globalization to the persistence of indigenous traditions. It also provides a springboard for classroom discussions of environmental issues, including environmental racism.
