The Trouble with Howard

The children’s book The Trouble with Howard is inspired by a real-life story of race car driver Howard and his mechanic Anita who rescues a skunk at the race track. The Team Penske news reel highlights women breaking ground in racing as mechanics and engineers. Both stories center on sportsmanship and women working in racing, and show that everyone should be able to follow their dreams.

Overview

Our learning materials focus on good sportsmanship, teamwork, and much more. They include reading comprehension questions for the book and a section on questions about the Team Penski news story highlighting Caitlyn Brown. The news story is linked here on the website and in the Google Slideshow of the learning materials. Learning materials are also available as a PDF (color version and black and white version) which can be given to students to write directly on.

Students learn about the importance of keeping our environment clean, can learn more about racing, and gain a better understanding of the importance of supporting each other.
