Chasing Time

Chasing Time follows photographer James Balog as he brings the 15-year Extreme Ice Survey project to a close. Accompanied by the Emmy-winning team behind Chasing Ice (also available in the Journeys in Film Resource Library), this 30-minute film spotlights the power of mentorship and the intergenerational effort to inspire hope and action toward a sustainable future.

Chasing Time is a powerful tool to engage the next generation in discussion around solutions to climate crisis.

The Chasing Time Teacher’s Guide was created by Hot Docs as part of Docs for Schools.

The Chasing Time Discussion Guide is designed for community screenings and includes tips for hosting a panel discussion in conjunction with the film.

Educators may also be interested in Chasing Ice, the prequel to Chasing Time, which follows photographer James Balog and a band of young adventurers as they capture the largest glacial calving event that had ever been caught on film. Learn more about Chasing Ice.
