Professional Development Workshops
Journeys in Film offers professional development to help teachers effectively bring global education into their classroom. As a result of the training we offer, workshop participants will:
- Return to school with real-life relevant lessons to engage and connect students with peers around the world.
- Understand why infusing global perspective into today’s classrooms is so important.
- Use film as a tool to engage students in active learning.
- Have creative, standards-based lesson plans to make math, science, social studies, and visual arts lessons come alive.
- Be equipped with strategies to increase parental and community involvement.
- Use Journeys in Film curricula – an innovative film-based, standards-based global education program.
Journeys in Film workshops use dynamic trainers and specialists, engaging foreign-language films and interactive hands-on activities and simulations.
We seek to inspire educators, school administrators, community members and home-schooling parents to use our innovative curriculum to capture the imagination and curiosity of your students.
Workshops can be tailored to meet individual school needs such as:
- Specific discipline areas (math, science, social studies, arts)
- Teaching with film/film literacy
- Parental involvement initiatives
- After-school and summer-school programs
- Specialized themes such as conflict resolution, bullying and more.
- Focus on administrative strategies for school and/or district-wide integration
- Adequate team planning time for actual program implementation
We also offer Global Education 101 content, exploring best practices in the field and questions such as, “What is Global Education? Why do we need it? What does it look like in the classroom?”
Journeys in Film offers full-day (6-8 hours), two-day and three-day workshop options. During the initial phase of our professional development services, our expert program staff conducts a need-assessment interview to determine how to best meet the needs of your group / our client. A custom-tailored agenda will be developed based on the results of this important step .
If you’re having a hard time finding the budget to organize a workshop, explore the following ideas:
- Your school can co-host a workshop, bringing together participants from your local area educational institutions – public, charter and independent. This often results in an environment for more engaging dialogue, while splitting the cost of the workshop with other schools.
- Engage your local area business and community organizations dedicated to youth development, the arts and education that support educational initiatives in areas relevant to Journeys in Film workshop offerings.
- Consider using Title II Professional Development dollars to bring this program to your school.
