Our Mission
The mission of Journeys in Film is to educate students to achieve global competency using interdisciplinary classroom materials based on award-winning foreign films.
Educating today’s media-savvy youth requires more than textbooks. Journeys in Film uses the visual storytelling of films in the development of standards-based lesson plans in core subjects, including science, math, language arts/visual literacy, social studies, inter-cultural communication and the arts.
Our program uses carefully selected age-appropriate film as a vehicle to help students:
- Mitigate attitudes of cultural bias;
- Develop a deeper understanding of global issues;
- Prepare for effective participation in the world economy; and
- Make relevant connections between global, national, community, family and individual experiences.
Our program uses film as an educational tool to help educators:
- Prepare youth to become global citizens;
- Use effective approaches for teaching core academics; and
- Gain experience through best practices and professional development opportunities.
The Journeys in Film curriculum provides innovative standards-based lessons that foster deeper learning and exemplify best practices in education, encouraging team teaching, cross-curricular implementation and professional development instruction. The result is an immersive high-impact experience for middle-school students that can be used in any educational setting, including home school settings.
